The Beginnings

Smartboards

The original interactive whiteboard was released in 1991 to provide unrivalled touch computing to school and businesses. It was so revolutionary that in 1992 Intel took an interest and became a minority investor.

In 1997 a Labour government took power in the UK with a motto of 'Education, Education, Education' as a result billions pounds in funding was pumped into schools. This helped kick-start a boom in interactive technology in education, as a result nearly all government funded schools in the UK have interactive boards. Teachers now depend on these boards for their lessons as it has been stated that they improve pupil participation by up to 33%.

More and more businesses are increasingly requiring an interactive board for there business, one theory is, that when people went to school in the past 12 years ago the majority used interactive boards. These pupils are now leaving for full time employment. The majority of companies currently do not use interactive boards. As' time passes and the people who are familiar with interactive whiteboards move into a company they are likely to be advising employers to provide them with better training aids, such as the training aids they used in school /college.
